Event Speakers and Sponsors As a result of the Blaine House Conference on Maine's Creative Economy, the Maine Arts Commission prepared the Creative Economy Conference Proceedings (423 kb .PDF)
Support from Governor John E. Baldacci During the 2005 State of the State address, Governor Baldacci announced the creation of a permanent Creative Economy Council, saying, “As a state we must embrace innovation and entrepreneurship in our schools and workplaces.” The Governor also named John Rohman, chair of the Maine Arts Commission, to chair the new council. The council members will be named in the coming weeks. Read the Governor’s address. Two days later, during a January 27 interview on Maine Public Radio, the Governor said “the arts do work.” He said that museums and theatres are economic anchors in Maine’s rural communities, that arts education enhances learning in all areas and that the state will continue to be a leader in the creative economy.
