How do I find listings of seasonal/year round cultural events, fairs, festivals? You can obtain a list of events in Maine by searching our Maine Arts Events Calendar. Maine's best sources of information regarding cultural events are local Chambers of Commerce and local newspapers. Listings are also carried on the events calendar of the Maine State Office of Tourism, Maine.Info festivals and Maine.Info calendars. Do you fund organizations?Maine nonprofit organizations and units of local government may apply to the Maine Arts Commission's Community Arts Development program. Please note that all Maine Arts Commission grant programs require consultation with Commission staff and cannot be applied for without prior discussion. In some cases the Maine Arts Commission will apply in collaboration with a Maine organization for grant funds outside the agency. For further information on available grant programs, please consult the Maine Arts Commission program guidelines. What can I do to help my special needs audience members? The Maine Arts Commission provides non-legal staff assistance in helping Maine arts organizations to understand and comply with state and federally-mandated civil rights laws, such as the 504 Section and the Americans with Disabilities Act. In addition, staff can assist organizations in researching funding opportunities for facilities upgrades, provide common sense solutions on a shoestring budget, help facilitate collaboration with organizations with similar needs, oversee the development of committees to address audiences with special needs, and provide information from its library of resource materials. The Maine Arts Commission works closely with VSA Arts of Maine and other state agencies to assure service to our constituency in these matters.
