Guidelines for Submitting Images

Images for Inclusion in Directory Listing

To have an image of yourself or a piece of your work included, please send one image to the Maine Arts Commission office (proper email and postal mail address below) and ask to have it included in your directory listing in MaineArts.com.

Image format requirements (Directory Listing only):

Digital image saved as a .jpg file
Size requirement: Width must be set at 240 pixels; Height and image size will vary from each image
Resolution of 72 dpi
Images must be sent in an email as an attachment, not embedded in the email document.
Name your image (naming conventions below)
Submit with a cutline (image details as directed below)

Images for Other Uses:

You may submit digital images to house with your digital record in our office. These images will be used as desired in our publications, website and/or in our online rotating artshow on our 48" plasma screens in the Maine Arts Commission office. Please send up to five images and ask to have them included in your digital record. Please follow image guidelines below when submitting your image.

Image format requirements (digital record or supporting materials for grant applications):

Digital image saved as a .jpg file.
Size and resolution requirement: The image needs to be at least 500 x 360 pixels in size with a maximum single dimension of 1024 and saved at a resolution of 72 dpi.
Images must be sent in an email as an attachment, not embedded in the email document.
Name your image (naming conventions below)
Submit with a cutline (image details as directed below)

Naming conventions for your image:

When you save your image, use the following guideline to name your file.
- Artist name_title of image_year of work.jpg
  - For example: JaneDoe_Untitled_2008.jpg
- Maximum of 72 characters in the file name.
- Name cannot contain any spaces or characters other than letters, numbers, underscore or hyphen.

Cutline (image details) to accompany your image:

Using Notepad or a text editing software, supply supporting information for your image.
Format for cutlines:
- Artist Name
- Contact Information
- Name of artwork
- Medium
- Date of artwork
- Site/location of artwork (if on display)
- Detailed description of artwork
- Price of artwork
- Photo Credit if needed
Save your cutline file using the same naming convention as your image (.doc, .txt, or .rtf)
- Artist name_title of image_year of work
  - For example: JaneDoe_Untitled_2008

Images may be emailed to MaineArts.info@maine.gov or sent on a CD rom to Maine Arts Commission, 25 State House Station, 193 State Street, Augusta, Maine 04333-0025. Be sure to indicate what the digital image is for when sending the email or regular mail material.
